Metal construction: what it is and when to choose it

Published: · 6 min read

Metal construction is the most common solution for halls, warehouses and hangars. Here is what it is, what advantages it offers and what to look for when you choose a builder.

What industrial metal construction is

It means buildings and load-bearing steel frames made in the workshop and installed on site. The frame carries the roof, the walls and the equipment, and the cladding is done with sandwich panels or sheet.

Advantages over masonry

The frame is made in parallel with the foundation, so total time drops. Installing the frame takes about 2 weeks. You get large spans with no columns, and the building can be extended later. For more, see the article "Metal hall or masonry building".

What to look for in a builder

Ask what material is used (with us, S355 steel and galvanised profiles), how the joints are made (bolted, no welding on site), whether you get technical and execution design and what warranty is given for materials and workmanship.

  • Technical design and calculation for snow and wind
  • One contractor, from design to handover
  • Deadlines written in the contract
  • Warranty for materials and workmanship
  • Completed projects you can see

What load-bearing metal construction is not

It is not gates, fences or decorative railings. Those are metal fabrications and are ordered from a different kind of workshop. We build load-bearing structures at industrial scale: halls, warehouses, hangars and commercial buildings.
