1. What you store and at what temperature
Vegetables, fruit, meat or frozen products need different temperatures. Temperature sets the insulation thickness and the equipment power.
2. Volume
Start from the quantity of goods and leave room for air and pallet circulation. An oversized room wastes energy.
3. Insulation with PIR panels
PIR sandwich panels have low thermal conductivity and seal joints well, so they are a common choice for cold rooms.
4. Doors, floor and seals
Doors are chosen by goods flow, and the floor must be insulated and strong. Weak seals are the most common source of losses.
5. Who builds it
Panels, doors and installation from one contractor avoid mismatches. See our page on cold rooms.
